A GP accused of giving elderly patients excessive doses of opiates in the 1990s faces a hearing at the General Medical Council to decide whether she is fit to practise.
The allegations against Jane Barton relate to her treatment of 12 patients while she was working part time as a clinical assistant in elderly medicine at the Gosport War Memorial Hospital in Hampshire between January 1996 and November 1999 (BMJ 2009;338:b1657, doi:10.1136/bmj.b1657).
