US Institute of Medicine calls for greater commitment to global health

    The US Institute of Medicine called on the incoming Democratic led administration and the president elect, Barack Obama, to increase funding for global health when setting US foreign policy and to coordinate efforts through a high level committee.

    The institute is part of the US National Academies of Science, which advise the nation on science, engineering, and medicine. The study and report were sponsored by leading philanthropic organisations and several government departments. A second report, due to be published in the spring, will contain more detailed recommendations.
