Asylum seekers in detention centres receive poor medical care, MP says

    Doctors in detention centres have a poor level of competence and often give a poor level of medical care, the Labour MP Diane Abbott said yesterday on the 60th anniversary of the United Nations’ Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

    Speaking at a public meeting to discuss the findings of Outsourcing Abuse, a report released in July by Medical Justice, a network of volunteers whose aim is to expose medical abuse of detained immigrants, Ms Abbott claimed that many doctors involved in such work knew little about tuberculosis and malaria and were “just trying to get through the day to earn their money.”
