Women’s reasons for delay in seeking help and advice included uncertainty about what to do if they were pregnant, not realising they were pregnant, experiencing bleeding that had mimicked menstrual periods, and changes in personal circumstances after finding out that they were pregnant.
Is cognitive ability in early adulthood connected with psychiatric disorders in middle age? The prevalence of major depression, anxiety, post traumatic stress disorder, and alcohol and drug abuse was assessed in more than 3000 male veterans of the US military aged around 38. Lower cognitive ability at enlistment (at around age 20) was associated with an increased risk of all five psychopathologies, although the mechanism needs to be explored further (Archives of General Psychiatry 2008;65:1410-18, doi:10.1001/archpsyc.65.12.1410).
