African Highway: The Battle for Health in Central Africa

For most of the period from 1970 to 1986 I worked as a surgeon and health service manager in Zambia and in particular for the mining industry from 1975. In common with most of the residents of the Copperbelt mining district I rather took for granted the fact that we had no need to take malaria prophylaxis. On reflection this was not something we could have expected.
