Mauveen Ethel Vera Munk (née Evans) was born in Durango, Mexico, where her father was a goldmine engineer. She was fluent in Spanish as a girl, and later learnt Welsh when her parents relocated to North Wales. After qualification, she met her husband during a visit to Holland, and they settled in Stilton in 1958. Initially she worked for the Department of Health and Social Security and the Blood Transfusion Service, and then joined a general practice based in Whittlesey and Stanground in 1972. She was a highly popular doctor, hardworking, conscientious, and an excellent listener. She gave necessary time to everyone, was in great demand by patients, and was highly appreciated by her colleagues.
She retired in 1989, and moved to Manaton, Devon, where she continued her work for the Department of Social Security until 2003. She leaves her husband, Jan, and two sons, Philip and Peter.
