“As long as I pass, I'll be able to pay off all my student loans,” I shout at my friend as I pass the saleswoman my debit card. It's not arrogance fuelling this zealous proclamation but over-riding confidence that as soon as you successfully complete medical school, your very own George Clooney lookalike takes you by the hand and leads you smiling and giggling into eventual consultancy.
