Richard Pearson was registrar in pathology at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital, Winchester, from 1952 to 1954 and at the Radcliffe Infirmary, Oxford, from 1954 to 1956. After postgraduate studies he became a general practitioner, ending his career in a practice in Holloway Road, North London, in 1982. He leaves a wife, Mary, and three children.
