EDITOR—Ravnskov et al raise some important concerns about the safety of treating much of the adult population with high dose statins but do not review how effective this might be.1 In January 2006 the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) Technology Appraisal requested that the NHS in England and Wales provide statin treatment to all those with cardiovascular disease and to all with a 20% or more risk of a cardiovascular event in the next 10 years.2 …
