Nigeria, India, Afghanistan, and Pakistan—countries where polio is still endemic—need to intensify their immunisation campaigns to prevent transmission of the virus, delegates at the World Health Assembly in Geneva resolved last week.
The move is one of the final steps towards eradicating polio completely worldwide. The number of countries with poliovirus transmission is at an all time low of four, and outbreaks in reinfected countries have been stopped or slowed down.
