US experts revise heart treatment guidelines

    Doctors should be more aggressive in treating patients with coronary and other atherosclerotic vascular disease to reduce their risks of future events, say guidelines from the American Heart Association and the American College of Cardiology (Journal of the American College of Cardiology 2006;47:2130-9; Circulation 2006;113:2363-72;; and

    The guidelines call for more exercise, flu vaccinations, lower blood pressure, no exposure to smoke, and lowering cholesterol with statins.
