Former head of ophthalmology department, University of Saskatchewan (b 1925; q Bristol 1950), died from lung cancer on 24 March 2006.
Cecil completed a residency in ophthalmology at the Universities of Bristol and Liverpool during 1956-63 and was appointed lecturer in ophthalmology at the University of Saskatchewan in 1963, later becoming head of department. He was editor of the Canadian Journal of Ophthalmology and was awarded a silver medal by the Canadian Ophthalmological Society for his contributions to medical eye care in Canada. Cecil was an accomplished musician and director of the American Liszt Society. He leaves a wife, Leila; four children; and five grandchildren.
