I welcome the call from two Physicians for Human Rights doctors for
the international community to ease the medical shortages in Gaza
No-one wants to see any sick person suffering.
Perhaps, since PHR enjoys such a good relationship with the Palestinians
and the Arab countries due to their constant support for the Palestinian
cuase , it might like to use its influence to get the Arab countries to
come to the aid of their fellow Muslims in Gaza and send money and
Israel is already sending medical equipment and supplies and
releasing funds to aid agencies and has urged others to follow suit.
Perhaps also PHR could do what it can to find out where some of the funds
that have been misappropriated have gone, and urge those who have taken
them to release some to alleviate the emergency that has arisen due to non
payment of salaries. The EU and others have sent billions of dollars that
seem to have disappeared. If they had been made available there would
have been adequate funds to ensure a stock of supplies for the medical
needs and a reseve fund for salaries.
In the meantime we can only feel sympathy for those sick people who are
caught up in this politcal mess not of their making, and hope that the
situation can soon be resolved.
One step in the right direction that would solve nearly all the problems
would be a simple statement from Hamas recognising Israel as the failure
to do so appears to be
the root cause of this serious medical problem
