Consultant in ear, nose, and throat surgery United Liverpool Hospitals and Liverpool Regional Hospital Board 1958-86 (b London 1921; q St Bartholomew's Hospital, London, 1944; FRCS, DLO), died from myeloma and complications on 24 October 2005.
Gerald, or Jo, as he was better known, did preregistration posts in Huddersfield and Lancaster, followed by surgical posts at Nuneaton and Birkenhead. He then saw two years' national service with the Royal Air Force as medical officer before becoming a surgical registrar in Fulham. In 1951 Jo began his ENT career at the Royal National Throat, Nose and Ear Hospital, leaving as a registrar in 1955. As a senior registrar in ENT he returned to Liverpool and was appointed consultant in April 1958. He leaves a wife, Brenda; two daughters; and three grandchildren.
