Everard Inseal Davis
General practitioner Cranleigh, Surrey, 1946-77 (b Worthing 1912; Emmanuel
College, Cambridge, 1931-4; q Guy’s Hospital 1938), died from a stroke on
25 October 2005.
"Tiny" Davis was a fine athlete in his youth. At Eastbourne College he
was Victor Ludorum and in the cricket and rugby teams. At Cambridge he won
athletics blues in 1933 and 1934, and was president of CUAC in 1934. He represented
Great Britain at athletics and won a gold medal at the 1934 Empire Games
in the 4 x 110yds relay. After qualifying he did his house jobs at Guy’s.
In 1940 he volunteered for the RAF and saw service in Britain and the Middle
East as an MO, reaching the rank of squadron leader. On demob he joined the
practice in Cranleigh and remained there as a much respected GP until his
retirement. After retirement he became president of the local cottage hospital
League of Friends and the local branch of ARC. Predeceased by his wife, who
was a Guy’s nursing sister, he leaves three children, four grandchildren,
