Internet papers show links between scientists and tobacco industry

    New allegations have been made that German scientists who received major funds from the tobacco industry played down the health effects of smoking. The allegations are in a report published online on 29 November in the American Journal of Public Health (doi:10.2105/AJPH.2004.061507).

    Earlier this year an article in the magazine Der Spiegel accused several German public health scientists of receiving funds for tobacco friendly research (BMJ 2005;331:70). The article was based on an analysis of tobacco industry documents available on the internet.
