Heart disease in diabetic patients is undertreated

Patients with type 2 diabetes and symptoms of atherosclerotic disease were systematically undertreated with drugs known to be effective in reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease and mortality, “perhaps because of a ‘glucocentric’ view of diabetes,” according to a study published in the journal of the Canadian Medical Association (CMAJ 2004;171:1189-92).
