EDITOR—A further issue relating to registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) which needs to be taken into account is where an overseas doctor who has passed part 2 of the Professional and Linguistic Assessments Board (PLAB) test is considering applying for an appointment to the armed forces in the United Kingdom.1

The Medical Act 1983 requires a person to be fully registered in order to hold any appointment as physician, surgeon, or other medical officer in the naval, military, or air service. This means that any such appointment to the armed forces in the United Kingdom is not suitable for a doctor holding limited registration.
