    As an anaesthetic registrar, I was always advised to pass all the necessary exams before having any children, and very sensible advice it sounded too. So imagine my dilemma when I found myself pregnant with a due date bang in between the final written and viva exams for my FRCA.

    The Bristol anaesthetic community was evenly split as to what I should do. One camp told me that I was mad even to consider taking the exams, while the other told me just to give it a go. I'm not sure what made me do it, but I decided to hope for the best and sit the exams.
