EU will fund research on stem cells only from embryos created before June 2002

The European Commission has proposed a set of ethical guidelines to cover human embryonic stem cell research funded by the European Union. The initiative is designed to enable the union to give financial support to projects investigating cures for major diseases in the overall framework of the sixth research programme.
