A medical task force in India has proposed a national diabetes control programme that will redefine being overweight in Indians, release consensus guidelines for diabetes management, and launch health education in schools and workplaces.
The task force, set up by the Indian Council of Medical Research, last week hammered out key elements of a diabetes control programme to address concerns about the increasing prevalence of type 2 diabetes in urban India.
