Following brief periods in the Royal Air Force and as assistant pathologist at the London Clinic, Gordie took up primary care in 1955 and worked as a singlehanded general practitioner until his retirement in 1982. Despite many years in London, he never lost his love of Gloucestershire or his soft west of England accent. Apart from food and cooking, his major love was his family. Predeceased by his wife, Frances, and his youngest daughter, he leaves six children and 13 grandchildren.
