SOUNDINGS: Medical necessity

I've been finding it hard to think of anything funny to write since 11 September. I was going to write something on the overuse of the word “appropriate” in modern society. In the end though that didn't seem, well, appropriate.

Why should I feel this way exactly? I don't remember losing the ability to be flippant in the weeks after I heard of the 8000 Muslims killed in Srebrenica, or the million Tutsis …
