Education campaigns can reduce stigma of depression and cut suicides

    Information is a potent weapon in combating depression, psychiatrists and other medical specialists attending the Hungarian Regional Congress of the Collegium Internationale Neuro-Psychopharmacologicum in Budapest last week (Sept. 20-23).

    The event was organised in conjunction with the Hungarian Association of Psychopharmacology and was attended by some 450 doctors from 35 countries.

    Effective use of antidepressants relied heavily on instructing medical professionals on how to recognise depression and convincing the public that it is an illness and can be treated with medication without serious side effects or the danger of addiction, speakers at the conference …
