EDITOR—The principal results of the Medical Research Council's trial of mild hypertension were published in 1985.1 Many at the time were disappointed by the modest benefits of treatment, particularly for the cardiovascular (as opposed to the cerebrovascular) system. This work has resulted in re-evaluating how to prevent stroke and myocardial infarction.
