Number of UK diabetic patients set to double by 2010

    Parts of the NHS are struggling to meet the needs of patients with diabetes, and improvements are needed if services are to keep up with increasing demand, according to a review of diabetic services in England and Wales by the Audit Commission published this week.

    The report, which urges that the NHS ensures that payment to GPs is linked to the activity and quality of diabetes care, says that four out of 10 general practices lack referral guidelines on diabetes.
