  • The thirteen year delay in implementing the EU working time directive for junior doctors is being criticised in other countries of the union too. The Irish Medical Organisation ( will ballot its 2, 500 junior members in December on industrial action. European social affairs ministers from Ireland and Britain backed the decision at a meeting earlier this month, apparently softening their initial demands for a 15 year delay. The IMO will be lobbying euro MPs to try to get the decision reversed.
