    EDITOR—The main reason patients have not been treated as partners1 in India is that traditionally it has always been the doctor who has had all the information about medical problems: the patient simply followed the doctor's orders. However, today we know that if we empower patients with information about their medical problems, they can become educated partners in their own medical care.2
