Former general practitioner Sunderland (b Sunderland 1907; qNewcastle 1930; DPH), died from bronchopneumonia on 31 July 1999. Dale joined his father in practice, taking over in 1936. During the war he also looked after the patients of two colleagues who were serving in the forces. At the start of the NHS he and his partner had a list of 7000 patients. He retired in 1972 but returned in a part time capacity, finally retiring in 1982. He served on the local medical committee for many years He played rugby for his medical school and golf until the age of 85 and supported Sunderland Football Club for many years Predeceased by his wife, Margery, he leaves two daughters; six grandchildren; and one great granddaughter.
