It is estimated that one in 15 doctors, at some time, become addicted to drink and drugs. Facilities in the United Kingdom to help them recover have long been described as inadequate. A centre in Maidenhead specialising in treating healthcare professionals claims to put 89.5% of doctors into recovery. This compares with only 30% for other clinics. Indeed Rory OÑConnor, the founder of this centre, plans to open a second centre in Derbyshire this year as the Maidenhead centre is oversubscribed.
