One quarter of the 140 newly qualified doctors at Bristol university have already accepted jobs in Australia and New Zealand if an article in the Daily Mail (31 July 1999) is to be believed. Higher pay and shorter working hours are the lure for the so called generation X doctors it claims, and evidence of the diminishing appeal of a future in the NHS.
