The PLAB (Professional and Linguistic Assessment Board) exam is due to change in the near future. Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCEs) are already in use, but further changes will be piloted this autumn. Change will be evolutionary, and reflects the desire of the GMC to take the exam “back within the fold” of assessment linked to reaccreditation. The standard expected in the new exam will not change dramatically: the examiners are looking for standards of written and spoken English and clinical knowledge that would be expected of a senior house officer.
