EDITOR—As the editors of the Textbook of Clinical Medicine of Asia we believe that we have to respond to the unnecessarily rude and offensive review of our book in the BMJ.1 Gilks has misunderstood the purpose of our textbook and also shows his ignorance of the nature of medicine in Southeast Asia.
