The Standing Committee on Postgraduate Medical and Dental Education is to be disbanded. The committee was founded in 1988 to advise the Secretary of State for Health on the delivery of postgraduate medical and dental education. It was axed after a review headed by former Welsh Chief Medical Officer Deirdre Hine. The Department of Health official responsible, Dr Robin Cairncross, said that the findings of the review body are “not in the public domain,” and was unable to say who would take over its functions. Former secretary Mr John Egan has been brought from retirement to manage the residuary secretariat.
