All GPs to be required to have defence cover

All general practitioners in Great Britain will be required in future to have professional indemnity cover under amendments made to the Health Bill in the House of Lords last week.
At present, neither doctors nor dentists are required legally to maintain such cover, although almost all do so. Hospital doctors are covered by NHS indemnity but GPs are not.
