Researchers began the first African trial of an experimental AIDS vaccine and, separately, another group announced that it will soon begin a largescale efficacy test of a second vaccine in Thailand. Both trials are part of a worldwide effort to see if vaccines can prevent or reduce the rate of infection from HIV in the developing world.
