Covers of BMJ need to be strengthened

We wish that we could convince ourselves that covers come off the BMJ more often than off the Lancet or the New England Journal of Medicine because the BMJ is removed from the shelves and read more often than the other journals. Unfortunately, we cannot. We have therefore taken steps to put right the problem that Dr Norstein has identified.
We have already started to use heavier and stronger paper for the cover of our international edition, and this month we will make several changes to the printing process. Together these changes should ensure that covers do not come off the BMJ, and perhaps Dr Norstein will repeat his study. We too will assess whether the changes solve the …
