    Editor—The BMJ has had a consistent policy of giving attention to mental health care. In his article on psychological treatments Richardson referred twice in his opening paragraph to the confusion that surrounds psychotherapy.1 It was disappointing to find that the article, far from dispelling this confusion, may have added to it in the minds of medical practitioners who employ or work alongside counsellors and psychotherapists.
