Overseas doctors who cannot hold a work permit but who have permission to stay in Britain for training will be entitled to funding for their GP registrar year from 1 April 1997. The change in policy has been welcomed by the BMA. Dr Stella Lowry, head of the International Division, said: “We have been concerned that many overseas doctors have completed the hospital part of their training only to find that no one will pay for their registrar year.”
