Half of the full time basic salary of a junior doctor is currently funded by the employing trust, and half by the postgraduate dean. A new NHS Executive consultation document examines the consequences of altering the funding balance between postgraduate deans and trusts and suggests that in the longer term a more sophisticated funding system should be used.
