EDITOR,—The use of morphine is still associated with unfounded fears, even though the modern hospice and palliative care movement has existed for almost 30 years. Hopefully, the explicit guidelines on the use of morphine for cancer pain drawn up by the Expert Working Group of the European Association for Palliative Care will help dispel these fears.1
