Government plan for care of elderly people

Elderly people who have insured against the costs of long term care should be allowed to keep some of their hard earned assets, said the British government last week. Legislation planned for next year could save 40000 elderly people a year from having to sell their family homes.

Half a million people live in care homes in the United Kingdom, and another million receive help at home. Much of this care is arranged and at least partly funded by local social services authorities. …
