Religion cannot be used to deny reasonable medical treatment to children, said the US Supreme Court last month. The court had been asked to overturn a ruling against a Christian Scientist mother who in 1989 administered prayer instead of insulin to her diabetic 1 year old son, Ian Lundman. He died of hyperglycaemia three days after church practitioners were called in by the mother to heal him.
