Rapid responses are electronic comments to the editor. They enable our users
to debate issues raised in articles published on bmj.com. A rapid response
is first posted online. If you need the URL (web address) of an individual
response, simply click on the response headline and copy the URL from the
browser window. A proportion of responses will, after editing, be published
online and in the print journal as letters, which are indexed in PubMed.
Rapid responses are not indexed in PubMed and they are not journal articles.
The BMJ reserves the right to remove responses which are being
wilfully misrepresented as published articles or when it is brought to our
attention that a response spreads misinformation.
From March 2022, the word limit for rapid responses will be 600 words not
including references and author details. We will no longer post responses
that exceed this limit.
The word limit for letters selected from posted responses remains 300 words.
I found your article very interesting, but think that a follow up
article showing more up to date examples would be very interesting.
I am I.T. Co-ordinator for Disabled Students at Hull University and
myself rely upon adaptive technology as I have ataxic cerebral palsy which
mainly affects my arms. As I can not use voice recognition because of my
speech difficulties, I use a keyguard and a very good word prediction

the computer via neural signals. This was very interesting, particularly
as I have a cerebellar stimulator implant!
I feel that my disability has been the reason behind my keen interest
in technology. Now, I am very interested in the Internet and for my MSc
dissertation, looked at the differing performances of six major search
engines. As I moved to Hull to take this job, I was very lucky to be able
to conduct my dissertation from home as Hull's phone company provide
unmetred local calls for 5.5p which meant that I could speed hours online.
