Differences in mortality after fracture of hip

An author's error occurred in the third letter in this cluster, by Alison Avenell (26 August, p 572). The lengths of stay in hospital given in the final sentence of the penultimate paragraph of this letter were transposed. The sentence should have read: “For example, patients receiving an oral supplement of 250 ml daily in one study had a median hospital stay of 24 days, compared with 40 days in a group not given the supplement.”
