GMC launches new “blue book”

The General Medical Council in Britain has launched a new set of guidelines for doctors on standards of practice to replace the so called “blue book.” The guidance comprises a series of booklets setting out the basic essentials of good medical practice and giving detailed advice on three specific areas--confidentiality, advertising, and HIV infection and AIDS (see also p 965).

The guidance, which will be sent to the 160000 doctors on the General Medical Council's register, also lists the 14 key principles of the duties of a doctor. These include …
