    EDITOR,—There have been several instances of drugs being approved by licensing authorities and later shown to be clinically ineffective. Many vasodilators used for the treatment of peripheral vascular disease or dementia are still licensed in the United Kingdom (and probably elsewhere) but their clinical value is questionable.
