    In developed countries it is respiratory physicians who have the most extensive knowledge of tuberculosis. With few exceptions other specialists have little experience, skill, or interest in its management. Over the years respiratory physicians have persuaded most other consultants to allow them to supervise drug treatment after diagnosis of pulmonary or extrapulmonary tuberculosis.
