Health committee critical of community care

    People in Britain with serious mental illness are being discharged abruptly and without adequate support into the community, says a report from the House of Commons health committee. Wrangling between government departments over responsibility for homeless mentally ill people is “exacerbating the already desperate plight of many mentally ill people on the streets or in inappropriate accommodation,” says the report. The amount of data available on care in the community for mentally ill people is also criticised as being “lamentable.”
