Guy's Hospital will stop acute care

Guy's Hospital, once the flagship of Britain's new NHS market, will stop being an acute hospital, said the secretary of state for health, Virginia Bottomley, last week. Guy's would, said Mrs Bottomley, “become a high quality health and academic campus, serving local patients' needs; training tomorrow's doctors, dentists, and nurses; and exploring the boundaries of medicine.” This was the most controversial of Mrs Bottomley's announcements that set out the shape of acute services in London while making a commitment to primary care in the capital.
